MILESTONES IN OUR HISTORY

At an extraordinary meeting held in March 1987, the Committee of The Society of Saint Hilarion Incorporated agreed to enter the field of residential Aged Care, “to provide suitable and adequate Nursing Home or Hostel facilities or similar accommodation or relief particularly for the benefit of Italian speaking aged infirm and/or disabled persons”.

This object of the Society was achieved with the purchase of a 50 bed Nursing Home at Lockleys in July 1987.

Over the period of the next 6 years, The Society increased its bed licences from 50 to 157, with the opening of:
• Villa Saint Hilarion-Lockleys, a 5 bed low care facility
• Villa Saint Hilarion-Fulham, a 50 bed low care facility and
• Saint Hilarion Nursing Home-Findon, a 52 bed high care facility
Each of these facilities has been purpose built to provide quality care to our Residents. Since 2002, Villa Saint Hilarion-Fulham has increased from a 50 bed low care facility to a 56 bed low care facility.

In keeping with the Society’s vision “A leading multicultural Aged Care Organisation within a loving, caring and Christian environment”, in 1999, the Society became a member of the Scalabrini National Association for the Aged, and the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of St Anthony was invited to fulfil the task of Pastoral Care at our Aged Care facilities. Their Pastoral Care work extends to the physical, emotional, recreational, cultural and spiritual needs of the Residents as well as providing assistance and support to their families.

In January 2003, a Scalabrini Priest was appointed as Pastoral Care Director, to further enhance Pastoral Care to our Residents.
