Chairman of the Board
Educated at St Michael's College, Henley Beach, Dennis then attended the South Australian Institute of Technology to undertake a Bachelor of Arts in Accountancy.
Dennis has a total of 39 years professional experience in accounting and tax. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand, a Fellow/Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) of the Taxation Institute of Australia, a Fellow of the National Tax Accountants' Association, an Associate of the SMSF Association and a Justice of the Peace. He also holds a Limited Australian Financial Services Licence through an associated entity DBCO SMSF Advisory Pty Ltd.
Dennis is Principal of Dennis Ballestrin + Co Chartered Accountants which commenced operation in July 1992.
With extensive accounting, and taxation consulting experience Dennis also has specialised skills in banking and finance, business reorganisations/restructuring, business valuations, building industry, primary production, manufacture and wholesale, medical/dental practices, self managed superannuation funds, tax planning, BAS preparation and more.
Dennis joined the Saint Hilarion Aged Care Board in late 2017 and was elected as Chairman of the Board in June 2019.
Deputy Chair of the Board
Rosemary Velardo is a 4th generation Cauloniese. She is the great granddaughter of one of the founding members of The Society of Saint Hilarion, Giuseppe Ciccarello.
From five years of age Rosemary remembers her involvement in the Society of Saint Hilarion from attending the annual Feast Day in honour of the Patron Saint.
In 1992 she became a member of the Executive Committee of the Society, first as a non voting councillor, then in the roles of public relations officer and secretary. In 2002 she was elected as the first female President of the Society and member of the Aged Care Management Board.
In order to ensure the evolution of the Society, she encouraged the children of past Committee members to become involved so that the next generation would take the Society into the twenty first century with honour and pride.
From 2007 to 2010 Rosemary was a Procurator (Trustee) of the Society and from 2010 - 2014 she returned to the position of President while also being a member of the Aged Care Board.
Rosemary is a dedicated senior leader in the field of Pathology for the SA Department of Health with over 30 years of service. She has a solid foundation in human resource management, project management, health informatics, cultural change and she keeps abreast of current health advancements. She also has a sound knowledge of the aged care health reform.
Rosemary rejoined the Saint Hilarion Aged Care Board early in 2018.
Dr Franco Chitti
Board Member (Procurator)
Dr Chitti graduated from Medical School at the University of Adelaide in 1969 and went on to complete his Medical Officers training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He began working in General Practice in 1970, at which stage he formed an allegiance with fellow colleagues, Dr Tommas Mittiga and Dr Ben Barbera to found Pro Health Care (formerly Seaton Surgery).
Throughout his career in general medicine, Dr Chitti has worked within numerous sporting teams including the former National Soccer League club Adelaide City alongside Dr Mittiga. He has a further interest in Family Medicine, being a proud father of five children.
Dr Chitti has also been a long-standing member of the Society of Saint Hilarion, and in his role as Procurator (Trustee) of the Society, has been instrumental in developing it into a leader in Aged Care service delivery.
Board Member (Procurator)
Roy is an Australian born Italian whose parents came to Australia from Caulonia, Italy in the 1920’s. His family has had a strong involvement with The Society since its beginnings in 1955.
He was a foundation member of The Society of Saint Hilarion Inc. and has continuously held office since its formation in 1970. He has been a Procurator (Trustee) since 1976 and a member of the Aged Care Management Board since its inception in 1987.
Roy is the former owner and operator of the successful Floral Craft Centre which is an importer and wholesaler to the Florist Industry across Australia and New Zealand. He has regularly travelled to China for business since 1983. Prior to owning his own business he worked for many years for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
He is strongly committed to the preservation of The Society of Saint Hilarion’s core values and heritage, and to ensuring that the purpose of the Society continues to be relevant well into the future.
Board Member (Procurator)
Joe is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Accountants and Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia. He commenced work in 1977 for a large firm of Chartered Accountants, Arthur Young & Co, in the field of audit for nearly 6 years. In 1982 Joe moved to work with a smaller firm, Bowman Manser & Associates, in the Accounting Services Taxation field, and in 1985 he established his own accounting and taxation practice, Joe Fanto & Associates. In 1988 he took on a partner, Frank Martino, and today Joe remains as active partner of Fanto Martino & Co.
Joe’s involvement with the Society of Saint Hilarion commenced in 1978 when Dr Franco Chitti recruited him as Treasurer of the Executive Committee and over the years, Joe was a Councillor and he also served for three years as President. In 1987 Joe was elected to the the first Aged Care Management Board and he has served every year since, including 4 years as Chairman from 2007 to 2011. Prior to this time he also served as a Procurator (Trustee) and upon the completion of his term as Board Chairman in 2011, he was reinstated as a Procurator.
Each year Joe takes great pride and pleasure in visiting the town of Caulonia in the South of Italy where Saint Hilarion is the Patron Saint.
Joe’s other major interest is eightball, and he has served as President of The World Eightball Pool Federation since 1997 and President of The Australian Eightball Federation since 1999.
Board Member (Society President)
Vince has a long history and association with the Society of Saint Hilarion he is the grandson of Giuseppe & Grazia Cavallaro one of the original founders of the Society. He has had much involvement in the St Hilarion community throughout the years, and currently serves as the President of the Society of Saint Hilarion. He is committed and passionate about being part of the Saint Hilarion Society and Community to ensure its culture and heritage is preserved for generations to come.
Vince is the Business Development Manager for Husqvarna Construction Products, for Remote Controlled Demolition Robots which are used in the Demolition, Mining and Process industries. This roll has enabled Vince to travel throughout Australia and the World, Sweden, China, Italy and USA just to name a few.
In his spare time Vince enjoys spending time with his family, cooking and soccer, especially coaching.
John Caruso has a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Adelaide.
A Partner at Tindall Gask Bentley Lawyers, Commercial law expert John Caruso joined the Saint Hilarion Aged Care Board in late 2017.
John is a current Muscular Dystrophy Association of South Australia board member.
Lidia trained and worked as a speech pathologist before becoming the founder and Managing Director of AvantiCare, an organisation providing allied healthcare consultancy and training to residential and community aged care services.
Lidia has a strong commitment to ageing with purpose and meaning.
Lidia joined the Board in June 2019.
Pino Dichiera is a Director of Edge Architects which specialises in Education, Commercial, Residential, and Aged Care developments. He has held various senior architectural positions with over 20 years experience in the architectural sector. He graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of SA and is a member of the Australian Institute of Architects and a Registered Architect with the Architects Board of South Australia.
He has a long association with the Society of Saint Hilarion having served as a junior committee member, member of the fundraising committee on the House of Saint Hilarion Building Appeal, through to his involvement as a member of the Aged Care Management Board.
