Named after the patron saint of Caulonia in Calabria, Italy, The Society of Saint Hilarion Inc was formed by migrants from the region who ventured to Australia before the Second World War.

In 1955 the first feast day was celebrated in Adelaide for Saint Hilarione which has continued to be celebrated ever since.

In 1987 the community identified a need for aged care in the western suburbs and the first home with 50 nursing beds was built in Lockleys. Since then two more homes have been built one situated in Fulham and the second in Findon.

In July 2008 construction commenced on the building of a state-of-the-art facility in Seaton to be known as 'The House of Saint Hilarion' which will house 107 elderly residents.
